Explore Luxury with P&O in the Pacific
When it comes to cruising, it’s said there’s something for everyone. I decided to put this to the test recently when I went on a four-day cruise on board P&O’s newly refurbished Pacific Explorer. The cruise I chose departed Sydney with one stop to Morton Island, before returning to its Sydney port. Here are my top 3 luxury experiences you can have on board.
A Taste of Salt @ Waterfront Celebrity chef Luke Mangan has debuted his first degustation menu for P&O on Pacific Explorer, held at the exclusive Chef's Table in a separate room within the Waterfront restaurant. The intimate dinner experience catering to 14 guests begins with pre-dinner drinks where the diners meet and enjoy a few drinks before heading to the private dining space inside Waterfront Restaurant. The dining room is moody, luxurious and features high black chairs and striking black chandeliers.
The menu consists of three seafood dishes and two meat dishes, followed by Luke's famous liquorice parfait with lime syrup, and a cheese plate with a glass of Chateau Tanunda botrytis Semillon.
Priced at 99 AUD per person, the cost includes the seven courses with seven matching wines, plus a souvenir group photo. The quality of the food is outstanding, and the wines are also generous pours making this experience a must on board this ship. I dined with my partner, and we met another couple during this experience who have since become close friends.
The Bonded Store & Archie Rose The concept of hidden bars isn’t new, but P&O has taken this one step further and created a mysterious, hidden venue on water. The Bonded Store created in partnership with on-trend Sydney distillery Archie Rose is tucked away in the corner of the ship and can be accessed by a door hidden behind a portrait. The Bonded Store has a secluded and intimate feel accompanied by stunning décor with plush armchairs and quirky vintage touches. The Bonded Store is not all show and no substance, in fact, what’s on the menu is solidly its best asset. The cocktails have been born from a partnership between P&O and the Archie Rose Distilling Co., and each drink features the handcrafted spirits of the Sydney-based distillers. The venues mixologists are worthy of their title with their alcohol knowledge among the best I’ve ever experienced. Whether you’re in need of nightcap or spending a night out with friends, a visit to the Bonded Store is an absolute must – I was there daily drinking my way through the exquisite cocktail list or enjoying a gin martini before beginning my night.
Elemis at Sea I’m not one for bingo or trivia, so a few hours at the day spa was right up my alley. On board the Pacific Explorer you’ll find the luxurious Elemis at Sea Spa which boasts incredible water views accompanied by a refined and luxurious spa experience. Offering decadent treatments at reasonable prices, experience an authentic pampering which is world class.
While I was away, I treated myself to an Elemis Aroma Stone Therapy treatment designed to be relaxing while increasing circulation, balancing energy levels, improving lymphatic function and cell metabolism. While I can vouch for all the internal aspects, I can say after 50 minutes I felt relaxed, refreshed and was a perfect way to kick off my mini escape. Elemis Aroma Stone Therapy 50 minutes 186 AUD.
After about four days of drinking and not to mention time in the sun, my skin took a bit of a beating. Naturally, it was time to revive my skin and indulge in an Elemis Pro-Collagen Age Defying Facial. This 50-minute treatment includes a cleanse, mask therapy and a super relaxing facial massage. My skin was instantly restored and had an incredible glow. Overall this treatment was the ultimate indulgence and relaxing experience and thoroughly recommend it especially towards the end of your trip – who doesn’t want to return from holiday with fabulous skin and a radiant glow? Pro-Collagen Age Defying Facial 50 minutes $182.
