Review: Ermenegildo Zegna Acqua di Iris
One of my favorite men's fragrances of all time would have to be Ermenegildo Zegna Essenze Florentine Iris. This luxurious scent combines Zegna’s own bergamot with Iris roots which have been kept underground for three years and then dried for a further three. The result is a light floral scent which is sophisticated, stylish and never fails to attract attention. This luxury scent comes with a matching price tag at $305 for 125mls. This year Ermenegildo Zegna has released its latest scent Acqua Di Iris which highlights the Iris plants rich in Italian heritage and creates a more accessible edition to its Florentine Iris fragrance for the younger gentleman.
Name: Ermenegildo Zegna Acqua Di Iris
Notes: bergamot, violet leaves, spices, iris, labdanum woods, sandalwood and musk
Described as: Fresh, invigorating and confident. The scent has been inspired by the cooling breeze and lush green fields of the Italian coast. Acqua di Iris was created for the stylish gentleman who has a carefree spirit and radiates Italian Style. The scent opens with a floral hit complimented by refreshing bergamot before unveiling its woody base.
Wear it: Spring and summer, day or night. This scent is incredibly versatile and can be dressed up or worn with a polo and chinos on a sunny afternoon.
Price: Acqua di Iris 100ml Eau De Toilette $148. Available now from selected Myer and David Jones stores, along with Ermenegildo Zegna boutiques.
The verdict: Let me begin by saying this fragrance is not identical to Essenze Florentine Iris. Both scents feature similar notes; however, the intensity differs as does the quality of ingredients which impact the overall scent. I enjoyed Acqua di Iris’ punch of violet leaves and iris which then settle, and the sensual woody notes begin to surface. On the skin, this fragrance lasted for about 3 hours before I needed to reapply. Acqua di Iris has been created with the younger Zegna gentleman in mind, and I believe it will be well received because of its originality - the same reason Florentine Iris appealed to me. A great scent for the season at a great price – I’m a fan!
