Review: David Beckham Respect
When it comes to sporting legends, there’s no denying in the world of soccer David Beckham is one of them. With a career spanning 21 years working with some of the world’s most prominent soccer clubs, Beckham also became known not only for his impressive on field skills but also his fashion sense and let’s not forget hair styles. In 2005 he launched his first fragrance for men titled Instinct, and since then his fragrance empire has grown significantly with the scent Instinct selling over 10 million bottles in 10 years! This year David Beckham is back with a new fragrance for men which is inspired by the universal value, Respect.
Fragrance name: David Beckham Respect
Notes: Grapefruit, watermelon, pink pepper, lavender, basil, cardamom, vetiver, patchouli and oak moss.
Described as: an aromatic, multi-dimensional and modern perfume that evokes the bright autumn day and scents of the forest. It relies on a contrast between fresh, spicy, clean and earthy tones. I found this fragrance opens in a refreshing and sporty manner with its combination of citrus and watery fruits which was complimented nicely by hints of spice. Once it settled on the skin, Respect began to unveil its aromatic facets followed by woody accords at its base. In keeping with the respect theme, vetiver featured in the fragrance is responsibly sourced from Haiti and is ECOCERT-certified as environmentally-friendly. David Beckham’s fragrance house supports Haitian producers to develop eco production methods that preserve the unique quality of this precious ingredient whilst empowering the local community and improving living standards.
Wear it: While the description compares the fragrance to a bright autumn day, I would consider this scent to be better suited to the Australian spring. It packs a refreshing hit from the first spray which I associate with warmer weather. The spicy notes in the scent are subtle again making it well suited for wear in spring and summer during the day. Respect is an easy-going relaxed fragrance that is perfect for weekend outings such as a breakfast or lunch, even a few drinks with mates at the local.
Price: David Beckham Respect Eau De Toilette 90ml $49. Available now from Chemist Warehouse and leading pharmacies nationally.
The Verdict: Whether you’re a Beckham fan or not, his fragrances are distinctive and attention grabbing. I quite enjoyed the freshness of this fragrance and its relaxed vibe. Respect is on the lighter side mainly due to its refreshing composition, so it’s a straightforward gift idea if you’re not sure what fragrances the receiver wears. Respect will be t a hit with the younger gent is his late teens and early twenties, and I can almost guarantee it will be a popular gift idea over the festive season so show the man some Respect!
